I was asked if my photography was a way to express myself. It struck me that I had somehow never considered this. Photography is personal to me and not a profession. I make photographs for myself and so they must represent me
I like to capture people going about their lives on the streets and have recently also made portraits of my work colleagues and family. I suppose I am a social animal and enjoy interacting with people, strangers even. There is so much to see and know in the world, so many different people that pass us by and we never interact with most of them.  Photography provides me with a tool to interact.
For me, the most enjoyable photographs are street portraits where I approach strangers I find interesting and request permission to make their portraits. This is not easy for everybody but I somehow almost never hesitate to approach people, however intimidating they might appear. After all, I am expressing to them that they are interesting and also getting their consent. The worst they can say is "No". Some do decline but the vast majority say yes.
Some of my street portraits are candid, with the subject unaware of my presence. I find these extremely interesting too for different reasons
